Blewbury’s Great Litter-Pick

Thanks to everyone who turned up to help with this on March 7. This was part of the Great British Spring Clean happening across the country in March and April. We had a great turnout for a small village.
Twenty-three people came, including one child, and collected 26 sacks of litter. Most of it was food and drink containers although there were also two golf balls, two vapes, a wood saw and a steel bar! Bessels Way ditches didn’t seem as bad as last year but we tackled Boham’s Road, where six sack-fulls were collected. Quite amazing given the few houses on this no-through road although it does go up to the Downs.
One volunteer wondered what we can do to tackle the problem of litter being dropped? It seems unsurmountable but I do know that we can all become ‘litter-fairies’ and pick it up when we see it. Thanks again to everyone who came and to Biffa and the District Council for providing the equipment.
